Dr. Josie Antonucci Di Carvalho
Dr. Josie Antonucci Di Carvalho is a marine biologist and science–policy researcher dedicated to strengthening the link between biodiversity knowledge and environmental decision-making. Based at the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB) in Germany, she works at the interface of science, policy, and society to support evidence-informed marine conservation.
Within the EU Horizon Europe project BioAgora, Josie collaborates with the European Commission in developing the European Science Service for Biodiversity — a key mechanism designed to connect scientific evidence with policymaking across Europe. She also contributes to the B-USEFUL project, advancing user-oriented decision-support tools for sustainable ocean management.
Josie is actively involved in the development of the Knowledge Exchange Network for Marine Biodiversity (KEN-Marine) — a collaborative hub that brings together scientists, projects, and policymakers to strengthen knowledge sharing and co-creation for marine conservation and ocean governance. She is also affiliated with INCT Bio Amazônia Azul in Brazil, fostering international collaboration and outreach on marine biodiversity and ecosystem conservation.
