Imme Scholz

Heinrich Böll Stiftung

Imme Scholz has been Co-Executive Director of the Heinrich Böll Foundation e.V. in Berlin since 2022. She is responsible for the Gunda Werner Institute for Feminism and Gender Democracy and for the field of international cooperation, in particular for work in Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. She is a member of the supervisory board of Brot für die Welt and of the jury for the NRW Innovation Award, which is awarded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
From 1992 to 2022, she was a research associate at the German Development Institute (DIE – today IDOS, German Institute of Development and Sustainability, Bonn), serving as its director for the last 13 years. Her areas of focus included environmental policy, climate change and climate policy, and sustainable development as a guiding political principle, as well as the economic rise of China and other countries of the Global South and its consequences for international relations. From 1999 to 2002, she worked for German development cooperation as a government advisor in the Brazilian Amazon region as part of the Pilot Program to Conserve the Brazilian Rainforest.
She studied sociology, political sciences, and Protestant theology at Freie Universität Berlin, where she received her doctorate in 1999.
