Emily Bugden
Emily Bugden is a research fellow at the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge, working at the intersection of sustainable finance, climate justice, and systems change. Her work focuses on how financial institutions can meaningfully align with 1.5°C pathways and, in particular, on strategies to end finance for fossil fuel expansion. She is the lead author of a forthcoming academic paper that sets out a research-driven framework for diverting new capital away from fossil fuel expansion, informed by Urgewald’s pioneering public databases on fossil fuel companies. Before academia, Emily worked across the philanthropic and advocacy sectors on climate and sustainable finance. She is particularly interested in justice-centred approaches to climate finance and in developing reparative, community-led alternatives that connect environmental and economic transformation.
