Brazilian Ministry of Foreign AffairsAmbassador Mauricio Carvalho Lyrio is Secretary of Climate, Energy, and Environment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Brazil's Sherpa to BRICS.Before assuming his current position, he served as Brazil's ambassador to Australia (2021-2023) and Mexico (2018-2021). At Itamaraty, he held, among others, the positions of Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2016-2017), Secretary for Diplomatic Planning (2013-2016), Minister-Counselor of the Brazilian Mission to the UN in New York (2011-2013), and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2008-2010). He also served at the Brazilian embassies in China, Argentina, and the United States. He was Secretary of Economic and Financial Affairs from 2023 to 2025, a position in which he served as Brazil's Sherpa to the G20.Born in Rio de Janeiro, he holds a bachelor's degree in Social Communication and a master's degree in International Relations from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ).
